Abstract

Objective: To investigate the relationship between blood cells count andchemical biomarkers with CAE and its severity in patients undergoing coronaryangiography.

Methodology: In this retrospective analytical study, patients who underwentcoronary angiography in Dr. Hashmat’s Heart Centre, Guilan, Iran from 2015-2017, were studied. The patients were divided in three groups: patients withisolated CAE, atherosclerosis patients, and those with normal coronary arteries. In addition, CAE patients were divided into sub-groups, according to the Mark isclassification.

Results: Total 302 patients ware included. Among the studied patients, 84(27.81%) had isolated CAE, 84 (27.81%) had atherosclerosis, and 134 (44.38%)had normal coronary arteries. No statistically significant differences wereobserved in the demographic characteristics of the patients among the groupsexcept for age. There were no statistically significant differences in the means ofthe parameters of CBC test and chemical biomarkers among the groups. Nostatistically significant differences were observed in the demographiccharacteristics, the parameters of CBC test, and chemical biomarkers in patientswith different types of the CAE.

Conclusion: The findings of the present study indicate that blood cell counts andchemical biomarkers could not be considered as appropriate parameters forassessing the presence and/or severity of isolated CAE.
