Treatment by ‘ Imported ‘ Doctors.Abstract
The recent decision by the administration to allow a local corporation to ‘import’ an entire team of surgeons, physicians, nurses and technicians to operate and manage their patients on a “fee for service” basis is going to have a fundamental effect on our health care services. Also, the decision to hand over the entire facilities of a local institute to this ‘imported’ team at the cost of disrupting the institutes own team‘s work is another fundamental error. In case certain organizations are not entirely happy with the results of what is locally available, do they have the right to decide that they are somehow superior to other Pakistanis and must be allowed to “import the best’ Can foreign physicians not registered in Pakistan come and practice here for a fee and get the money, in foreign exchange? How many more corporations will get such as permission? If not, why not? What medical specialties shall have this privilege of importing ‘the best’ surgeons from abroad? Where shall this trend end? Shall I be wrong in saying that the Pandora ‘S box has been opened?!
