Quitting smoking carries major and immediate health benefits for men and women of all ages, even those in the older age groups. Benefits apply to healthy people and to those already suffering from smoking-related diseases.
Conclusion:
The Comprehensive Smoking Education Act of 1984 (Public Law 98—474) requires the rotation of
four health warnings on cigarette packages and advert isements. One of those warnings reads, “SURGEON GENERAL’S WARNING: Quitting Smoking Now Greatly Reduces Serious Risks to Your Health.” The evidence reviewed in this Report confirms and exp ands that advice.
