Echocardiography, since its introduction by Edler, has greatly revolutionizedcardiac practice and helps in the diagnoses of diseases. It involves multiplemodalities for a complete study but the most fundamental part is chamberquantification by M-mode and 2D scanning. Guidelines have been proposed forthese regularly by various agencies especially American Society ofEchocardiography with timely updates. These updates show changes in theseparameters which are at times quite marked. To keep abreast with the evolvingknowledge in this field, most recent guidelines have been reviewed and it isattempted to present it in an easy format for all those involved with cardiologypractice especially echocardiography.
